Dear Father, five undocumented immigrants were killed when the SUV they were in crashed yesterday in Big Wells, TX. It has been reported that the van, traveling over 100 MPH, had 14 people in it at the time of the crash and 12 of the occupants were ejected. The car was being chased by U.S. Border Patrol agents. Two other vans in the caravan, suspected of human trafficking, were successfully pulled over by agents without incident. The third van sped away. Father, I ask that You have mercy and compassion on those who were effected by this horrific tragedy. Comfort those who mourn the loss of loved ones. May those who were injured completely heal. Be gracious also to those, such as first responders, who were emotionally traumatized from the carnage. Father, use this event to lead people to faith in You. May at least one of the victims surrender their lives to You and enjoy a lifetime of spiritual blessings as a result. Get the love of Your church involved and transform lives. Write testimonies of spiritual renewal in this event that inspire others in the years to come. Amen.
Dear Father, Ivan Duque, 41, has become the President of Colombia after winning the election 54% to 42% over leftist Gustavo Petro. His running mate, Martha Lucia Ramirez, became the first female vice president in Colombia. Duque, who is considered a conservative, studied and worked in Washington DC before returning to Colombia. He pledged in his campaign to become more aggressive in the war against drugs, an action Petro said he would not do. Duque says he will also lower corporate taxes and increase the size of the police force. He vows to make changes to the peace accord between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a guerrilla organization known for raising funding through criminal activity. The accord with FARC, where the FARC turn in their guns in exchange for being given seats in the legislature, was never approved in the legislature because of the criminal activity of FARC. Experts give Duque a small window of opportunity to fix the chronic problems of inequality, poverty, and corruption in the country or else he can expect a stronger challenge in 2020 from the left who experienced gains in this election. Father, I ask that You use Ivan Duque as Your agent of good in Colombia. Use him to bring justice to the poor. Use him to strengthen Your church in the country. Give him wisdom and surround him with godly advisors. Father, all leaders of government are in office because of Your sovereign will. Achieve Your purposes for him. I pray You will lead both Ivan Duque and Martha Lucia Ramirez to faith in Jesus Christ. In the meantime, please protect them and their families and provide for them with all that they will need. Amen.
Dear Father, the U.S. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy allows the children of illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S. with work visas. It is estimated that there are 750,000 “dreamers”, children of illegal immigrants entitled by DACA to remain in the U.S. The DACA program has received much criticism from conservatives and President Trump, claiming DACA takes jobs away from native-born Americans and that it is unconstitutional. The Trump Administration announced the end of DACA in September 2017. The move was met with many protests by the left and court decisions to prevent the Trump Administration from ending the program. While DACA continues to be debated politically, it has been reported that the U.S. border patrol is now separating children from their parents at the border and putting them into secure facilities. This action has resulted in more outcry from the left. Kirstjen Nielsen, the Secretary of Homeland Security, says the blame should properly fall on the parents who bring their children across the U.S. border illegally. Father, I ask for Your grace and compassion to be on the children who have been placed into these secure facilities. They have been separated from their parents. Meet their needs for food, clothing, education, guidance, and protection. Defend them against injustice. Bring the gospel of Jesus Christ into their lives through loving, genuine, and authentic Christians. Father, fix this illegal immigrant problem in our country. Help us as a nation to be a refuge for people who need to encounter the love of Jesus Christ by their living within our nation’s borders. At the same time, we do need to have an organized process that protects our citizens from terrorists and gang members who cross the border. Father, help us to find a way to love the the foreigner and welcome them into our nation but, at the same time, protect the interests of the citizens who already live here. Amen.
Dear Father, 22 people were injured at a Trenton, NJ arts festival this weekend after a gang-related shooting. Tahaji Wells, 33, the gunmen, was killed by police. Wells was serving 18 years in prison for aggravated manslaughter, and a variety of other crimes, with his expected release not to occur before 2022. However, he was released four years early which gave him the opportunity to shoot the victims at the festival. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat, who has cut the budget for a prisoner reentry program, is calling for more gun control, claiming the shooter’s early release had nothing to do with the shooting. Father, I ask that You attend to the physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial needs of the victims of this shooting. Help them to heal and to recover from this traumatic experience. I pray that somehow through this experience they will be brought closer to faith in Christ. Use the love of Your church to change lives. Father, guns don’t kill people. People kill people. People kill people because they are living in rebellion from You. You have called us to love our neighbors. If we would obey You, we would never shoot anyone unjustly. regardless of what guns are in our possession. Father, bring about the resolution of gun violence through a spiritual awakening of Your church, an explosion of love that touches every city in America. Amen.
Dear Father, Tommy Lee, 55, is the former drummer for Motley Crue, a very popular heavy metal band, known for their hedonistic lifestyles, that sold over 100 million records worldwide. Tommy has been married three times, including marriages to celebrities Heather Locklear and Pamela Anderson. The divorce with Pamela has been particularly bitter with their two children, Brandon and Dylan, siding with their mother. Brandon has accused his father, who served time for domestic violence, of being abusive to his mother and for abandoning the children. Lee is in the news today because of a Father’s Day tweet where he criticized his former wife and children. Brandon responded by posting a warning to his father, sharing a video of a March 2018 event where Brandon knocked his father out in a physical altercation. Father, I am asking You today to come into this family and perform a miracle. Lead both Tommy Lee and Brandon Lee into personal relationship with You. Bring about their spiritual transformation like You did with Saul of Tarsus. May both father and son one day share the same stage, talking about their thankfulness for the amazing things You have done to bring healing in their relationship. Father, do the impossible hear and may we all marvel at it. Amen.
