Dear Father, a helicopter operated by the New Jersey-based Liberty Helicopters crashed into the East River yesterday near 88th Street in New York City. All five of the tourists on board died. The only survivor was the 33-year-old pilot Richard Vance. First responders valiantly worked to extricate the submerged victims who were trapped in their seats. However, two died on scene and the other three died in the hospital. Initial reports are that the helicopter experienced engine failure which may have been related to an accidentally shutoff fuel supply. Father, I ask for Your compassion to pour into the lives of the families and friends of the five victims. They had no idea 24 hours ago that they would be grieving today. Many may have received videos and images from the victim’s cellphones moments before the crash. Comfort the survivors today. May this tragedy lead them into a closer relationship with You. Help them to navigate through the various stages of grief, leading them to a place where they can experience peace. Create testimonies of Your goodness in their lives this very hour that will be shared with others in the future. I ask that You be gracious to Richard Vance as well. He experienced not only a significant trauma but also the loss of five passengers in the helicopter he was flying. I’m sure this must not be easy for him. Father, use this experience to draw him to You. Transform his heart and mind. Lead him into a personal relationship with You. Help him to heal. May he find peace in You. I pray that Your church will minister to all those who were traumatized by this event, including the First Responders. Amen.

I ask that is accident will lead to the transformation of lives and the creation of testimonies that will inspire others to place their faith in You. Father, help the relatives of the victims as they make funeral arrangements and adjust to life without their loved ones. Make their paths straight. I pray that Your church will minister to them and show them the love of God. Father, for those who are injured, please bring them healing. Give them relief from their pain and enable them to rest. May the medical teams attending to them give them excellent care. I ask that You will help each of the victims process the trauma of the experience and be restored emotionally and spiritually. Amen.
