Dear Father, thirty-seven Palestinians were killed today during protests over the U.S. Embassy move to Jerusalem. Another 772 have been wounded. Over 35,000 people are said to be protesting at dozens of locations along the security fence in the Gaza Strip. Protestors have burned tires, hurled pipe bombs, firebombs, and stones at Israeli troops while Israel planned a celebration of the embassy’s move. The move has angered Palestinians who view east Jerusalem as the future capital of a Palestinian state. From their perspective, the U.S. has chosen Israel over the Palestinians. Israeli forces have fired tear gas into the rebels to disperse the crowds. Father, we ask again for calm in the region. We ask that leaders on both sides will have the wisdom to call for a cessation of violence. Father, give wisdom to political leaders, inspiring them with the political solution that will keep the nation of Israel safe and satisfy the Palestinians who believe Israel occupies their land. Father, save lives today. Prevent people from getting injured or killed. Take actions that disperse the crowds, such as a heavy downpour. Be merciful on the families who grieve the loss of loved ones. Heal the injured. Father, use this unrest to lead many people into a personal relationship with You. May testimonies come out of this event that inspire us all to commit our lives to You. Amen.
Dear Father, nine nations are believed to have nuclear weapons in 2018. Those nations include the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel. It is believed that the United States has nuclear weapons in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, and Turkey. Nuclear weapons are in the news this year for several reasons. There was a false warning of incoming missiles that shook up the residents of Hawaii in January. North Korea threatened nuclear destruction of South Korea, Japan, and the United States before they changed their minds and came to the peace table. After President Trump announced the U.S. was pulling out of the multinational nuclear deal with Iran, Iran increased their efforts to join the nuclear weapons club, setting their sights on the destruction of Israel. Both Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have vowed to modernize their nuclear arsenal. Some experts have stated they believe the chance of nuclear war has never been greater, not even during the Cold War. Father, there have only been two hostile nuclear explosions in world history. The U.S. dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, detonations which rapidly led to Japan’s surrender in World War II. Father, thank You that the world has not experienced ever since the death of a single civilian due to a nuclear explosion. We ask that You continue to protect civilians in every nation of the world. Please prevent dangerous men or women, people who have no respect for life, from using bombs to destroy population centers. If nations must fight, may the wars remain conventional. Father, protect us from accidental detonations of nuclear weapons by human error or by the aging of the weapons systems. Father, do not allow any country to possess the bomb whose intentions are to conquer or destroy. May nuclear weapons be purely defensive for those who own them. Amen.
Dear Father, it has been reported that Micaela Johnson, 26, of Illinois, the mother of a 5-year-old son, developed cervical cancer before she could have additional children. Doctors gave her a hysterectomy to save her life. Prior to the procedure, Micaela and her husband Brandon decided to freeze her embryos for future vitro fertilization with a surrogate mother. Shelia Gump, 43, her mother, volunteered to be that surrogate mother. It has been reported that mother and daughter are best friends and are often mistaken as sisters. Shelia has had three successful pregnancies which began in her teenage years. She was implanted with two embryos from her daughter and a boy and girl are now growing normally in her womb. Shelia has made it clear that these children are her grandchildren and that she will be their grandmother. She will treat the two children as if her daughter had given birth to them. The two women have had to deal with bureaucratic paperwork required for surrogacy by law. Father, these two women can thank You for this medical miracle. You have given mankind the medical technology to be able to do this. I thank You for the story inside the story here, that a mother and daughter can have such a close and loving relationship. Apparently the women grew close after Micaela’s parents divorced. I also thank You that this story includes a reference that father and mother have reunited in some form. Father, I pray that this pregnancy will result in the healthy births of the two children. Bless Shelia’s body and help her to recover quickly. I pray You will provide the donor breast milk needed for the children that Micaela is seeking to find. I pray that you help the family with the emotional challenge that the grandmother of the children is also the birth mother. I ask that You will give strength and direction to both women as they must deal with unexpected emotions and feelings. I ask that both of the children will come to faith in Jesus Christ and that they will grow to become blessings to our society. I pray that this entire family will experience the miracle of spiritual rebirth. May they all walk with Christ and share testimonies of Your amazing love. Amen.
Dear Father, Khamzat Asimov, from Chechyna, who was on a list of potential terrorists, attacked innocent civilians with a knife on Saturday night in central Paris. A 29-year-old man was killed and four others, two men and two women, were injured before the police fatally shot the suspect. All the injured are expected to survive. ISIS has claimed credit for the attack. Father, I ask that You comfort the friends and family of the man who was killed. Lead them to turn to You during this hour of grief. Meet their every need. I also pray for the injured. Give them full recovery, both physically and emotionally. Father, I ask for mercy on the family of the murderer. Work in their lives and lead them to faith in You. Help those in the family who feel guilt and shame over their loved one’s actions. Be kind to them and lead them to a place where they experience peace and joy through a relationship with You. Father, work across the globe today to prevent attacks on innocent civilians. May we never know the acts of terror that could have been because they never happened thanks to Your work. Amen.
