Dear Father, Jamie Lee Curtis is an American actress, blogger, and author. She has starred in a number of well-known Hollywood films, specializing at one point in her career on the horror genre. She is the daughter of two famous Hollywood stars, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis. She is married to Christopher Guest and the couple has adopted two children. She has recovered from an addiction to alcohol and pain killers. She has been an advocate for gay rights and a supporter of the Democratic party. She is also an advocate for children’s hospitals and women in recovery. Father, I ask for Your blessings on her life. Bring her into a personal relationship with You. Bring into her life the testimony of authentic believers in Jesus Christ and may those testimonies plant a seed in her heart. May she do business with You and experience forgiveness and the peace and joy of a restored relationship with You. I ask that her compassionate heart will serve You to Your honor and glory and lead others into a personal walk with You. Meet her needs this very day and may she know the good that comes only from You. Amen.
Dear Father, few humans have ever experienced worldly fame and fortune to the degree Elton John has. His career as a singer, pianist, and composer began 51 years ago when I was in kindergarten. He has sold more than 300 million records. He has had more than 50 Top 40 hits. His tribute to Princess Diana, “Candle in the Wind 1997”, is the best-selling single in history. He has won many awards and is considered one of the most influential artists in history. I know the lyrics to many of his songs, something nearly an entire generation of Baby Boomers can say. I was in attendance at his concert in Boston on either October 15 or 16 in 1979. He married David Furnish in 2014 after same-sex marriage became legal in England and Wales. Elton, 70, is in the news today because he has announced his final tour – a three year “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” world tour. He wants to spend more time with the children. Father, many people of faith do not approve of same-sex marriage. However, I am confident that You love every human whom You have created. Elton is no exception. You desire him to surrender his life to You just like You desire of each one of us. You want him to experience full forgiveness for the rebellion we are all guilty of. You want what Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross to apply to Elton just as much as You want it to apply to anyone else. Father, I ask that You have mercy on him and lead him into a spiritual rebirth. May he encounter the risen Christ and may that encounter transform his heart and mind. Father, he may have the wealth of nations in his bank account. However, he has needs that money can’t resolve. You know what they are. I pray that You will meet those needs and may it be absolutely clear in Elton’s heart and soul that You did it for him. Father, I ask that his children, along with his spouse, will also experience the grace, compassion, mercy, and love of Jesus Christ. May Elton write at least one song before he passes that is dedicated to his Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Dear Father, Heath Gumm, 32, an Adams County, CO deputy, was fatally shot yesterday in Thornton, CO. Deputy Gumm was one of the officers who responded to an “assault in progress” call. When confronted by the police, the suspect fired his gun, striking Deputy Gumm in the chest. The suspect fled after the shooting and is still on the loose. The police have arrested one of three suspects related to the incident. Father, I ask that justice be served in this incident. Please orchestrate the capture and arrest of the individual who committed the murder and any who conspired on their behalf. I pray for the safety of both law enforcement officers and civilians with the fugitives on the loose. I ask for Your grace, compassion, mercy, generosity, and love to pour into the lives of Heath’s surviving family and friends. Walk with them through their grief. Comfort them. Give them everything they need. May Your church demonstrate the love of God to this family. I pray that You will meet this family’s long-term needs as well, especially the absence of a father in the home. Father, I ask that Your miraculous compassion for those who grieve in this incident will lead to inspiring testimonies in the 2020s of how good You are. Amen.
Dear Father, Larry Nassar, 54, was the former USA Gymnastics national team doctor and an osteopathic physician at Michigan State University. Already sentenced to 60 years in prison for child pornography by the federal government, he was sentenced yesterday for sexually abusing numerous women associated with the US gymnastics team and the university. He now faces up to 175 years in prison. Father, I now ask for closure and for healing for each woman who was a victim of Mr. Nassar. I ask that You help them heal both emotionally and physically. I ask that You will use this experience in each victim’s life to strengthen their relationship with You. Father, transform the heart and mind of each victim, giving them deep love for You and the spiritual blessings that follow. I do ask that the severity of the Larry’s sentence will send a message to other abusers around the country, leading them to remorse, confession, and genuine repentance. Father, as for Mr. Nassar, I ask that You will be gracious to him. May he have an encounter with You in prison and may that encounter lead him to genuine remorse, confession, and repentance. May the transformation of his heart and mind minister to other prisoners, inspiring incarcerated men to turn their lives over to You. Amen.
