Anthony Perez

Dear Father, Anthony Perez, 11, died yesterday when he fell through the ice of a frozen pond in Queens, NY. He ventured onto the pond in an effort to rescue a friend who had fallen through the ice. First responders, two of whom required treatment for hypothermia, were not able to revive Anthony. Father, I ask that Your compassion, mercy, and kindness will overwhelm Anthony’s family and friends. Embrace them in this season of profound grief. Lead them into life-changing spiritual encounters with You. Transform their hearts and minds, giving them inner peace and joy that defies description. Meet their every need. May Your church in Queens show be Your hands and feet of compassion for this family. I pray for full recovery for the first responders who had hypothermia. Lift their spirits today as they deal with the loss of an 11 year old child. Father, write testimonies in this tragedy and may those testimonies inspire others in years to come. Amen.

Winter Olympics

Dear Father, the 2018 Winter Olympics, otherwise known as XXII Olympic Winter Games, will be held in Pyeongchang County, South Korea from February 9-25, 2018. Athletes will be competing from 93 nations, including athletes from North Korea, a nation that has been a political and military adversary of South Korea. Athletes will be competing in alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsledding, cross country, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding, and speed skating. Father, please keep the entire 17-day event free from terrorism or natural disaster. Keep the officials, the athletes, and the spectators free from those who would like to use this international athletic competition as an opportunity to shed blood and to spread fear. Give the security team the information and the resources they need to protect all who officiate, participate in, or attend the various competitions. Father, I pray You will protect the athletes from serious illness or injury. I pray that the athletes with the most admirable characters will perform to the best of their ability and that they may be rewarded for their hard work. I pray that the joint Korean women’s hockey team will foster improved relations between North and South Korea. Father, use this event to advance Your church. May athletes and spectators be introduced to Jesus Christ and may their lives be profoundly changed by Him. Amen.

Taylor Swift

Dear Father, Taylor Swift, 28, is an American singer-songwriter and one of the most popular recording artists in history. The Pennsylvania born young woman moved to Nashville, TN at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music. She became a star with the release of her first album at the age of 16. She has subsequently released five more albums. She has won many awards, set world records, and has often been at or near the top of the charts. She has sold over 40 million albums in her career, enjoyed a variety of product endorsements deals, and has been considered for years one of the wealthiest ($ 280 million) and most influential people in the world. Her songs are often credited for their effectiveness to speak for the feelings of young women. She is one of the most followed celebrities on social media. She is considered by many to be more emotionally stable and responsible compared to other young female recording stars. She has friendly interactions with her fanbase and has been known to visit fans in the hospital. She has avoided the sexualization of her image and has given a significant amount of her earnings to charities and victims of disasters. She is an activist, fighting against sexual predators, hate crimes, LGBT discrimination, and bullying. Father, despite all of her great success and cultural power, she is, like everyone of us, a rebel from God. She needs to be forgiven for her rebellion from You. Father, I ask that You show Your compassion, mercy, kindness, and grace in her life. Orchestrate situations in her life that lead her to a point where she accepts Your Son, Jesus Christ, as her savior. In the event she is already a believer, strengthen her faith. Turn her into an ambassador for Christ. Father, sustain and expand her resolve to use her fame, influence, and wealth to help people in need. May her heart long to help more and more people. Father, our young people need heroes of good character. Use her to set a good example that influences young men and women. Meet her every need. Protect her from the enemy who would like to harm her. Pursue her and enjoy a close relationship with her as she soon will turn to You regularly in prayer and the study of Your Word. Amen.

Mike Revis

Dear Father, Mike Revis, 27, won a special election in Missouri yesterday for a Missouri General Assembly seat. What was stunning was that he is a Democrat who won in a district Republican Donald Trump won by 28 points in 2016. Many consider this as another indicator that voters are turning away from Republicans and the Democrats may regain control of the Congress in this coming November’s elections. Mr. Revis ran as a centrist, a more effective strategy than the far-left identity politics of many Democratic candidates in recent years. His campaign focused on traditional Democratic issues such as education, health care, and support for labor. His victory can also be credited to a highly-mobilized and energized Democratic party determined to regain power nationally and in state legislatures across America. Father, I don’t believe anyone is elected to office without Your sovereign approval. Accomplish what You want to accomplish for Your church through Mr. Revis. Soften his heart towards the concerns of Your church in Missouri. May he build relations with Your church. Work in his life so that he personally experiences a personal relationship with Your Son, Jesus Christ. Father, give him the wisdom to make sound decisions and may he be a blessing to the citizens he represents. Meet his personal needs and may Mike become a man of prayer and humility before You. Amen.
